This antique, circa 1900, French Savonnerie rug has a golden-brown field with a central eau-de-nil roundel containing a shaded ivory and red interlocking acanthus leaf vine, an outer soft green laurel-leaf band with a pairs of leafy sprays issuing from each side with garlands of polychrome flowers, in a cusped caramel-brown framed border with scrolling polychrome acanthus leaves in each with a trumpet shape issuing a flower bouquet at each corner, at the sides a pair of shaded pink curves acanthus leaves enclosed within a pair of joined blue acanthus leaves issuing flowering sprays, at each end a shell motif surrounded by curved and joined acanthus leaves, a quiver and a lighted torch perched above tied with a ribbon, in a narrow outer eau-de-nil frame with spaced flowerheads a similar flowerhead in each corner with a supporting acanthus leaves, plain outer eau-de-nil stripe.
