This antique, circa 1870, Khotan rug has a steel-blue field scattered with a variety of flowerheads and further floral motifs around a column of three mustard-yellow and pale brown roundels, the central roundel containing a hooked lozenge with linked lozenge panels, the roundels above and below each with a band containing a delicate zig-zag vine linking paired striped leaves around a central lozenge surrounded by flowerheads, the terracotta-red and buff-brown key-pattern spandrels in each corner, in a buff-brown border of flowerheads linked with a pair of angular floral stems between golden-yellow narrow angular lozenge vine and linked polychrome square floral panel stripes.
