This antique, circa 1860, Persian Bakhshaish rug has a pale camel field with three columns of linked angular lozenges, issuing light blue angular vine forming panels enclosing angular flowerheads, alternating with buff-brown double forked vines enclosing an open band of square panels each containing a central polychrome palmette, these panels linked by further angular vine and flowerheads, in a broad soft blue border of bold polychrome lozenge medallions with a brick-red and fox-brown square panel each with a central flowerhead linked by angular brick-red vine which enclose polychrome serrated leaf motifs, between brick-red and fox-brown angular vine stripes.
